The test presented here is the Stress subscale of the DASS-21, developed by Lovibond and Lovibond (1995, University of New South Wales). It is a 7-item questionnaire assessing chronic nonspecific arousal — difficulty relaxing, nervous tension, irritability, and being easily agitated or upset over the past week.
The test is designed for self-completion and takes about 2–3 minutes. Each item is rated on how much it applied to you over the past week. The subscale score is calculated by summing the 7 items and multiplying the total by 2, giving a range of 0 to 42. The result is not a medical diagnosis and does not replace consultation with a specialist.
Stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression are often intertwined in practice and can reinforce one another. If you are more concerned about anxiety, tension, or worry, our anxiety test may help. If you are more concerned about low mood, loss of interest, or lack of energy, our depression test may help. If you are struggling with sleep, try our sleep tests.
